This shoot was squeezed into the short weekend I spent at my family’s home, north of Hamburg. I was quite excited as it was to be my first serious shoot with two models, and we had a lot planned.
I had first tried to photograph the two of them the previous summer, but my camera had had problems with the autofocus and so the photos were not useable, and my camera was sent in for repairs. Since then my photographic skills and knowledge have developed substantially, and therefore I was pleased at the opportunity to redo the shoot.
We arrived at the models’ home at 11am, Alison, Gustave, Lulu, and I. They, too, have a dog, and so Lulu was set up for wonderful morning with plenty of company, while Alison prepared the model’s and assigned costumes, Gustave acted as the light assistant with the reflector, and I photographed happily, for three hours.
The weather situation was a little complicated due to the fact that hard rain and bright sunshine were constantly overtaking each other, and had we had to hurry outside for every burst of sun, and search for locations indoors whenever the rain (and sometimes hail) returned.
Each model had three different looks which were created by Alison with great care, and while one was having her make up and hair done, the other was being photographed. This is a system I’ve grown increasingly fond of since then, and I now prefer to have two models available to me during shoots, because this benefits the productivity enormously.
One thing that I absolutely loved about this shoot is also that there was a never-ending supply of food and drink available to us, including cake and freshly whipped cream - which made the entire set up so much more delightful. <3
